A self-described “people person”, Matt Hedding-Hess, is a warm and empathetic counselor. Matt believes the therapy setting should be one place where you can show up fully and authentically. Matt’s person-centered approach incorporates art, mindfulness, and experiential practices to bring out the best in you and increase your self-understanding.

Matt utilizes a person-centered approach considering cultural humility and an understanding of systems theory to meet each unique individual who sits across from him where they are. Getting to know you and your life experiences and how they have brought you to where you are is the cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship. Matt specializes in working with LGBTQ+ individuals and their families. He has extensive experience working with adolescents ages 12-18 and a passion for working with diverse individuals, couples, and families.

Matt graduated from Governors State University in 2021 with his Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Throughout his programs he focused on LGBTQ+ youth issues. Alongside private practice, Matt also works at Clove Alliance, providing counseling and advocacy to victims of sexual violence. He is passionate about a community connected approach to counseling and serves as the President of the local mental health council, a board member for the local homeless shelter, and runs a local LGBTQ+ resource network. Matt and his husband are foster parents, love live music and theater, and traveling.
